Welcome!

I'm Denise and mama to two little wonders. I created this space to remind me to be more present as we move through the dance of our days. . .keeping my eyes, ears, and heart open to the joy and magic in each moment. Feel free to comment, I'd love to hear from you! All questions are answered in the comments section of each post.

A milestone!

No, Amara's not crawling yet . . . but we are indeed celebrating.  ASPARAGUS! Our time has finally come!

This may seem like a meager harvest, but to us it is a major milestone - quite symbolic of the path that we are finally on.  TJ and I have purchased and moved into 4 different houses now. . . all of them lovely in their own way, yes, but none of them worthy of an actual asparagus patch until our most recent move. You see, now we actually own a h-o-m-e . . . a place worthy of daydreams and plans that take us into the next few decades, yes, decades.  We are not the sort of folk to set our roots down wherever we are, planting bulbs and raspberries and such.  Yes, we've grown a few tomato plants, but actually planting something that doesn't even reach it's potential until YEARS down the road. . . forget it.  Until now - now, that's all we can see - a wide open path full of nothing but potential.  Granted, we lucked out and our new home came with its own tiny asparagus patch, but this is only the beginning.  We've got big plans. . . chickens, apple trees, mulberries, raspberries, swaths of rhubarb. . . and more, so much more.

Worth remembering

So here we are, 3 1/2 years into mamahood and I have come to the tough, yet comical, realization that my brain is just a wee bit mushy. Pre-mama times I didn't miss a beat. I could teach a new group of 30 kids each day and have their names memorized within the first 1/2 hour of class. I kept to-do lists just to have the pleasure of checking things off at the end of the day, not to actually help me remember. And now, if you tell me something important and I don't write it down - well, forget it.

Which brings me to the whole point of this blog. Memories are slipping too much for my comfort zone. We are now all here - the four of us. And never again will I have the awesome privilege to watch each triumphant effort as a babe learns to crawl. As I look back through photos memories stir, yes - but words have a power of their own. And the act of actually writing and photographing with the intention of being more present and mindful during my daily grind - now that's what I'm talking about.

So let's get on with it, eh?

Today's sweet moments included: The plumpest, wrinkliest fingers and toes I've ever seen after nearly 2 hours in the bath armed with a toy sailboat, a couple of scrub brushes and a little baking soda. (Yes, Cedar had fun and helped me clean at the same time!) And an afternoon in the spring sun watching little Amara lift that belly up off the ground over and over while her brother somersaulted and played "chainsaw" by the woodpile.

Ah, that feels good. Now take that mushy brain!
